Teen killed, 4 others wounded in Fairmount Park shooting

A 17-year-old girl was killed and four other teenagers were injured when shots were fired during a gathering Friday night in Fairmount Park, authorities said.

The shooting happened at around 10:45 p.m. along Greenland Drive in the section of the park abutting the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, according to police.

Officers took the girl, who had been shot in her chest and shoulder, to Temple University Hospital, where she died a short time later, the PPD said.

TERRANCE TAZWELL

Authorities have not released her name, though her family, speaking to multiple local television news stations, have identified her as Isya Stanley. They said she graduated earlier this month from Freire Charter High School.

Investigators said that a 14-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen and two other boys – both 15 – were each shot in the leg. An 18-year-old girl was also struck in the leg, according to the PPD. The four victims were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

No one was arrested in the aftermath of the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the PPD’s Homicide Division at 215-686-3334 or call or text 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Through June 11, eight teens and children under the age of 18 had been killed and 51 others were wounded in shootings this year in Philadelphia, according to the City Controller’s gun violence dashboard. On the same date in 2023, there were 13 fatalities and 73 juveniles injured.
