Two teens killed in North Philly shootings

A 16-year-old boy was killed Sunday night and another teenager died Monday afternoon after being shot more than a dozen times, police said.

At around 3:30 p.m. Monday, a boy, described by investigators as 15 or 16 years old, was shot 18 times throughout his body on the 100 block of W. Wyoming Avenue in the Feltonville section of North Philadelphia. He succumbed to his injuries about 30 minutes later.

The other teenager, 16-year-old Kanye Davis, who lived in Strawberry Mansion, was shot several times at around 8 p.m. Sunday on the 400 block of W. Diamond Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of either killing.

Meanwhile, seven people were injured in shootings Sunday night.

Just after 11 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the face while attempting to break into a home on the 4700 block of Ashville Street in Holmesburg, according to investigators.

He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.

A 21-year-old woman was grazed near her eye when shots were fired just after 10:15 p.m. Sunday on the 6300 block of Regent Street in Southwest Philadelphia, police said. She is expected to physically recover.

In Frankford, a 29-year-old man was shot in the mouth at around 9:45 p.m. on the 1600 block of Foulkrod Street. He was later listed in stable condition at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

Four people were hospitalized when someone opened fire just before 8:15 p.m. Sunday on the 1300 block of S. 50th Street in Kingsessing, authorities said.

A 40-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot in the right arm. The other victims — men ages 21, 22 and 28 — were in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center following the shooting.

Investigators said a 30-year-old man was shot in the hip and right foot during an attempted robbery that occurred at around 7 p.m. Sunday on the 2600 block of N. Hutchinson Street in Logan. He is expected to survive.

Earlier in the day, 21-year-old Samuel Collington, a senior at Temple University, was fatally shot at around 1:30 p.m. outside his apartment on the 2200 block of N. Park Avenue, near the college’s main campus in North Philadelphia.

Collington, of Delaware County, was set to graduate in the spring with a degree in political science and had interned with the office of City Commissioner Omar Sabir.

“Senior university officials spoke with Mayor Kenney’s office today and we are intensifying our work with the city, community groups and the Philadelphia Police Department to further enhance safety in and around the Temple community,” said Charlie Leone, the university’s public safety director, in a letter to students Sunday.

No arrests had been made in the case at the time Metro went to print.
