A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot while riding a SEPTA bus Saturday afternoon in West Philadelphia, police said.
The killing happened just after 1 p.m. at 40th Street and Girard Avenue in the Parkside neighborhood, according to authorities.
Investigators said a group of five or six teenagers were involved in a fight at the back of a bus before one of the young people stepped out the rear doors and fired a single shot into the vehicle.
The bullet struck the boy in his chest, and he was declared dead a short time later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, police said. The PPD has not publicly identified the victim.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident, which occurred on a bus running along SEPTA’s Route 15, now known as the G under the authority’s rebranded Metro system.
The PPD has not reported any arrest in connection with the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department’s Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or call or text 215-686-TIPS.
