Teen murdered in Kensington is city’s 290th homicide victim this year

A teen was killed Saturday evening, becoming the 290th homicide victim of the year.

The 19-year-old was shot in the neck outside a home on the 2800 block of Jasper Street shortly before 5 p.m. He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital a short time later. Police have not released a motive and no arrests have yet been made.

The incident was one of several shootings around the city over the weekend. A 19-year-old is in critical condition after he was shot in the face and leg on the 1600 block of Wallace Street in Spring Garden shortly before 11:15 p.m. Friday night.

A man was injured in an unrelated shooting less than two hours later. The victim, 42, was shot in the arm at Broad and Ditman streets in North Philadelphia shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday morning and taken by private vehicle to Temple University Hospital, where he is in stable condition. No arrests have yet been made in either of those cases.

A number of weekend shootings have also been reported in Point Breeze, North Philadelphia and Southwest Philadelphia, but police today said that they could not confirm those incidents at this time.
