Teen suspect in Rittenhouse Square shooting turns self in: Police

A 17-year-old boy suspected of shooting a good Samaritan in the toney Rittenhouse Square neighborhood turned himself in early Saturday morning, police said.

The teen surrendered around 4 a.m. and was accompanied by his father, officials said.

On Tuesday evening, the teen and an accomplist allegedly attempted to rob a couple at gunpoint in the iconic park. A man on a bicycle happened by and stopped to prevent the robbery, investigators said. But the teen grabbed the gun from his cohort and turned the weapon on the man and fired.

Police were able to identify the teen as a suspect because the couple in the robbery attempt knew him by his nickname, investiators told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The unidentified victim, who was shot five times, was listed in stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital on Wednesday.
