Teen wounded as bullets fly at Overbrook rec center

Two dozen bullets were fired Monday night at an Overbrook playground, leaving a young man hospitalized, police said.

Officers responded at around 9:30 p.m. to Tustin Recreation Center, located on the 5900 block of W. Columbia Avenue, near Overbrook High School. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man who had been shot was arriving at Lankenau Medical Center, authorities said. He was listed in stable condition with a wound to his buttocks, according to the PPD.

Investigators said 21 spent 9MM shell casings were found alongside three .40 caliber casings, indicating at least two shooters were involved.

Since the start of the year, 579 people have been shot in Philadelphia, a decrease of about 7.5% compared to the same date in 2024, according to PPD data.
