Teens, 2-year-old wounded in pair of shootings

Eight people, including four teenagers and a 2-year-old, were injured in a pair of recent shootings in Philadelphia.

Police said four teens were shot when gunfire erupted just before 2 a.m. Thursday in a courtyard at the Spring Garden Apartments, a Philadelphia Housing Authority development on the 700 block of Wallace Street in North Philadelphia.

A 15-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the face, and another 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg, according to authorities.

Investigators said a 16-year-old girl was hit in the face and leg, and a 14-year-old girl was grazed in the head.

All four victims were later listed in stable condition at Jefferson University Hospital.

Officers who responded to the scene found a black revolver and several spent shell casings, but no arrests have been made.

A family inside a car was caught in a barrage of gunfire after they stopped to talk to a man at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 5100 block of Wyalusing Avenue in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia, authorities said.

Police said a 2-year-old boy who was in the backseat with another young boy had blood on his leg and face when officers arrived — possibly from a graze wound or broken glass.

He was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in stable condition. The other boy was not injured.

The passenger, a 26-year-old woman, was shot in the head and rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was in critical condition, police said.

Authorities said the driver, a 37-year-old woman, was shot in the lower back. Her injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

The 26-year-old man, who the women had been speaking with, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg.

Investigators did not release any details about a potential motive for the shooting.

Elsewhere, a 35-year-old man was fatally shot just before 10 a.m. Thursday on the 5000 block of Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia, police said. No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the killing.

A 27-year-old woman was in critical condition after being stabbed four times at around 4:15 a.m. Thursday on the 1300 block of N. 51st Street in the Parkside neighborhood of West Philadelphia, according to authorities.

Earlier, just after 3:45 a.m., someone shot a 17-year-old boy in the foot inside a corner store on the 6500 block of Elmwood Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, investigators said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

In North Philadelphia, a 44-year-old man showed up to Temple University Hospital after being shot four times at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the corner of 2nd and Westmoreland streets, police said. He is expected to survive.

On Wednesday, just before 11:15 p.m., a 44-year-old man was shot in the right thigh on the 800 block of E. Madison Street in Kensington, authorities said. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
