Three teenage boys were hospitalized after shots were fired Saturday evening near a recreation center in East Mount Airy, authorities said.
At least 17 shots were fired in the area of Finley Playground, according to multiple local media reports, and police said all three teens were “being held as prisoners” in the aftermath of the shooting, meaning they could face charges.
The incident happened just before 5:15 p.m. on the 900 block of E. Upsal Street, according to the PPD.
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the chest and rushed to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition, investigators said.
Authorities said a 14-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh, and a 16-year-old was grazed in his face. Both were being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
No further information about the shooting was available Sunday. Anyone with information can call or text the PPD tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
