The Barnes Foundation and Indego launch a masterworks bikes collection

When you think of riding your bike around the city, has it ever crossed your mind that you could get it wrapped with a famous painting?

Today, the Barnes Foundation announced a cool collaboration with Indego Bike Share where 20 bikes will be wrapped in paintings from the Barnes collection.

This is the first time ever a city bike-share program has teamed up with an arts institution in such a way.

“We are excited to collaborate with Indego—an engaged, equitable, and sustainable bike share program dedicated to ensuring that all Philadelphians have access to affordable and healthy transportation options,” says Shelley Bernstein, deputy director for digital initiatives and chief experience officer at the Barnes.

“Welcoming all communities from across Philadelphia is a key goal at the Barnes, and the Indego bike share program is an extraordinary example of an initiative we can learn a great deal from. With bike-share docks located in areas within a 30-minute ride to the Barnes and with over 1.5 million trips to date, Indego is a positive, ubiquitous force in Philadelphia, and we look forward to welcoming its riders to the Barnes.”

The first 10 bikes will be debuted on Thursday, September 14 at the free launch party, Open House: #BIKETOBARNES, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The next 10 bikes will be revealed at The Barne’s Free First Sunday in May 2018.

In addition, The Barnes is giving Indego passholders free admission for one year starting from the launch. They’ll even be able to give a friend $5 off admission.

Pretty sweet, right? There’s never been a better time to get back on a bike.
