Sweet and savory reasons to head to The Dutch this weekend

The Dutch, helmed by co-owners Chef Lee Styer and Chef Kevin Watters has quickly become a hotspot on East Passyunk serving up an assortment of reimagined Pennsylvania Dutch classics for breakfast, lunch and dinner… and their tasting menu, The Dutch After Dark. 

There’s more than one reason to try out this Philly favorite come this weekend, with a special 12 oz prime rib dinner—with the proper accouterments, of course—being available for one night only on Friday, Feb. 3, from 5 to 9 p.m.

The multi-course experience includes the “massive and mouthwatering” cut of meat, paired with a warm frisée salad (made with a warm bacon vinaigrette, red onion and a hard-boiled egg), potatoes dauphinois, grilled broccoli with roasted garlic, and your choice of dessert with options including malted milk chocolate ice cream, salted caramel cheesecake, and a brown butter apple tart.

Anyone interested can make a reservation on Tock. But, Friday isn’t the only upcoming dinner option at The Dutch. For Valentine’s Day, evening service will be helmed by Chef Lee Styer through 5 courses, inspired by its predecessor sister restaurant Fond. 

Dishes will include Hamachi Crudo with heart of palm, charred avocado, tobiko caviar, lime-coconut mole broth, and cilantro; duck ragout and gnocchi with yellow foot mushrooms, saffron, and black truffle; halibut en brik made with jumbo lump crab imperial, pea leaves, and sweet Aleppo pepper; a New York Strip boasting pommes anna, fontina, spinach, and sauce perigord, and for a sweet finish, the vanilla caramel eclair made with blood orange, raspberry, and hazelnuts. 

As a release states, The Dutch’s Valentine’s Day dinner is priced at $125 per person with optional wine pairings for $50 per person. Reservations are highly recommended and can be placed via Tock, or by sending an e-mail to lee@thedutchphilly.com

This weekend however, Philadelphians who can’t make the specialty dinner can head to the hotspot for brunch—which recently expanded to daily service. 

“We’re pumped to be open seven days a week for the first time at our new East Passyunk location, serving new and returning customers brunch every day,” said Watters in a statement. “Looking ahead to the future of The Dutch, we’re hoping to continuously host fun and innovative events, programming, and potentially be open for dinner service seven days a week as well.”

Highlights include a Crispy Lebanon Bologna Omelet ($16), Savory Dutch Baby ($15) boasting kielbasa, scallion, and powdered sugar, Ring Bologna Eggs Benedict ($15) topped with two dippy eggs and creamed chipped beef, Steak or Pork Belly & Eggs ($27) made with truffled mushrooms, chimichurri and toast, the Sweet Dutch Baby ($12) boasting lemon and powdered sugar, the Reuben ($17) with your choice of corned beef or turkey, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, Swiss cheese on marble rye with a side of fries or salad, and more. 

Those partaking in brunch at The Dutch can enjoy a cup of joe from neighbors Rival Bros. Coffee, in addition to lattes, hot chocolate, tea, a selection of fresh juices, and more. And as the release states, imbibers opting for a boozy brunch can select from wines by the glass, craft brews, and cocktails including Passionfruit Bellini, Elderflower Spritz with sparkling wine and lemon, Bloody Mary, Mimosa, Michelada utilizing Tecate, tajin, Clamato, and serrano chili, and Gin Grapefruit Collins.

Hours of operation at The Dutch are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. for brunch service, and Wednesday and Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 – 10 p.m., and Sunday from 5 – 9 p.m. for dinner service. Brunch is available on a walk-in basis only. Reservations can be made for dinner via Tock.
