For the third summer running, the former parking lot at Eakins Oval in front of the Art Museum will be reimagined as Philadelphia’s “Park on the Parkway.”
Opening Thursday, the Oval will feature a new 25,000 square foot mural by artists Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn as well as numerous other attractions.
The ribbon-cutting of the Oval will take place at noon on Thursday.
The park will be open for six weeks as of July 16, with activities offered every weekend.
According to the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Parks and Recreation, there will be regular events every weekend including:
-Thursdays: live bluegrass music
-Friday: Happy Hour from 5 to 8 p.m.
-Saturdays: Quizzo
-Sundays: karaoke, hoop-dancing, face-painting for kids and BMW test-drives
All week long there will be available games like cornhole, jumbo Jenga, and disc-golf.
