The warm weather has us itching to rid ourselves of old, drab designs and usher in this year’s new home decor styles. We stopped by Busybee, the home store on South Street, to talk shop about the most buzzed-about trends with lead designer Alexis Pew.

Textured wall paper for homeowners
Forget what you know about the wallpaper your Granny had. “Wallpaper is making a comeback, which always surprises people,” says Pew. “We’re doing a lot with textured wallpaper: metallics, tone-on-tone. One of our most popular wallpapers looks like a mini tile mosaic.” The thought of wallpaper being sleek may seem counterintuitive, but the stylish embellishment is actually quite sophisticated. It isn’t loud or fussy — it’s saturated and bold.

Wall paper decals for renters
You don’t have to let the fact that you rent stop you from putting up snazzy wallpaper. Pew explains that there are temporary decals that renters are snatching up in a frenzy. “It’s just peel-and-stick. Just rip it down when you’re done and it won’t take off the paint underneath. It’s a nice way to update your space yet not be tied to it permanently,” says Pew. Like the real-deal wallpaper, the decals come in styles that are a far cry from the floral patterns of decades past.

Green accessories for everyone
“Typically, interior design trends follow fashion trends, only a couple years behind,” Pew explains. “So a couple years ago in fashion we were seeing a lot of deep greens, and now it’s coming to furniture.” But if you can’t commit to an emerald accent wall or Kelly green couch, you can always sprinkle the color in with accessories like throw pillows and placemats. “This way,” says Pew, “you can easily switch it out when the trend changes.”
