The Phillies, eager to play at home, have to wait another day

The 2023 season is almost a week old and this year’s edition of the Philadelphia Phillies, it’s not off to the start that many expected. The team currently sits at 1-5, the same record as the Washington Nationals who were EXPECTED to have a bad season. So many figured the home opener would be a good chance to turn this early season slump around. Well, Mother Nature decided we will have to suffer just a bit more.

That’s right kids. Fans will have to wait until Friday, April 7, for the Phillies to take to the field at Citizens Bank Park. Weather is not on the side of the Phillies and several severe storms are expected in the area. The wait might be good for Philadelphia, even though it doesn’t seem too sunny now.

Phillies v. Reds Quick Preview

The Phillies will hand the ball to Zack Wheeler in their home opener. They’re going to be looking to win their third consecutive opener at Citizens Bank Park. Meanwhile, the Reds are off to a much better 2-3 start after losing 100 games in 2022. They’ve been off the past couple of days and those rested arms will be ready. Litley

Cincinnati will be coming off of consecutive off days, as their home game against the Chicago Cubs was rained out Wednesday. Hard-throwing righty Hunter Greene is expected to start for manager David Bell and company. Greene allowed three earned runs over 3 1/3 innings pitched on Opening Day.

The home opener will still start at 3:05 p.m. ET, with the gates at Citizens Bank Park opening to fans at 12:35 p.m. ET. If you’ve got tickets, they’ll still be honored.
