The Roots debut Tiny Desk Concert this morning with ‘It Ain’t Fair’

You can shake off your case of the Mondays because The Roots have debuted a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR this morning.

The whole crew traveled four hours to Washington, D.C. from New York, despite their busy schedule as the house band of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”

Black Thought, Questlove and Philly powerhouse vocalist Bilal performed the 12-minute song “It Ain’t Fair” with seven other musicians squeezed behind the “tiny desk.”

The soul-stirring track was used in the film “Detroit” (which is about the 1967 race riots), but the words to it are more relevant than ever.

“It ain’t fair/ It’s hard when you’re looking for love/ And it ain’t there/Or try to read what tomorrow holds/When it ain’t clear/Because the well is running dry/Racial tension is running high/ Under 21 is far too young to die/My salvation’s under fire/ Rising and rising,” Bilal sings.
