It’s a great time to slide right into some delicious deals—entrepreneurs William Johnson and Anesha Garrett are opening up their new pop-up, which will serve up some of their fan favorite slider treats from their brand, The Slider Co.
The three-month pop-up launches this Friday, July 11, at 4 p.m. in the outdoor courtyard in front of The Luxe (1705 N American St.). When the concept opens its doors on that date, the first 100 guests on opening day will receive a complimentary choice between the Fat Mama Cheeseburger (made with an angus beef patty, sharp cheddar, house pickles, baby greens, red onion, tomato, and tarragon-Russian dressing) or the The Kitchen Sink, (a vegan crispy quinoa patty, vegetable ceviche, baby greens, black bean-sriracha sauce, and avocado purée, served on a sweet potato bun.)

The concept will also be serving up additional sliders, house-made sides, drinks, and cookies.
“The sky is the limit for how far we see The Slider Co. going,” said Johnson. “Our goal is to become a nationwide brand and open locations all over the country. But for now, we are thrilled to be popping up in our hometown of Philadelphia to show the sandwich capital of America what we’re all about.”
Johnson worked his way up in the culinary field, starting out as a dishwasher before eventually cooking under Chef Christopher Todd for five years at Christopher’s and Fourchette 110 in Wayne. Johnson eventually became the opening chef at World Café Live before launching his own catering company, Mia & Me Catering, which is named after his daughter, Temia, in 2011, a release notes.
Garrett also started from the ground up with a 22-year career in healthcare and a hobby for bridal and baby showers that grew in 2013 into a pastry chef certification from the Star Institute in Northeast Philadelphia. She then went on to launch Sugar Bouppies, a pastry business named after the childhood nickname given to her by her grandmother.
The duo met in 2016 and began traveling — upwards of 43 countries — to find inspiration for different culinary creations. Some may recognize the DE Slider Co. in Wilmington, the couple’s first venture, as well. Today, the two share kitchen duties, while Johnson also oversees operations and Garrett manages the company’s finances.

Some of the Slider Co.’s fan favorite items include the 95 South (buttermilk fried chicken on cornbread), and the aforementioned Fat Mama Cheeseburger, and Kitchen Sink. The pop-up will also don a Seafood Slider Meal with blackened salmon, a rotating flavor every week, plus a smattering of fries and desserts.
The pop-up’s operating hours will run Thursday and Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. To find out more information, visit slidercophl.com
