Things don’t seem to be going well for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys were in the news last week after reports of the team expecting to cut number one wideout Amari Cooper. Now the franchise is in news for a similar reason, but different player.

According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas News, the Cowboys offered their high priced defensive end, Demarcus Lawrence a pay-cut that was promptly declined.

Lawrence signed a five year, $105-million deal in 2019 but has only totaled 14 and a half sacks in the last three years since the extension was signed. Lawrence’s contract does have an opt-out option this offseason, but carries a dead cap of $19 million if the Cowboys were to move on from one of their longest tenured players. Dallas would save about $8 million if they were to move on from Lawrence.

Currently the Cowboys are expected to be $13 million over the cap with close to $9 million in dead cap. The news comes after the Cowboys were reported to be shopping their All-Pro WR Amari Cooper, and potentially releasing him if no trade partner is found.

More on this story to come as it is reported.
