On Saturday, Feb. 3, Manayunk will be chock full of events with the launch of the Founders Philly Freeze Out, the Founders Freeze Out Run and the 2024 MNYK Chowder Crawl.
Festivities throughout the day will include the Lion Dance with New Leaf for Chinese and Lunar New Year, a new interactive ice sculpture by the Philadelphia Flyers street team, a new snowy ice igloo experience and photo opportunity, offerings from popular food trucks, Founders and MNYK giveaways, a festive winter shopping pop-up market, and Founders specials at restaurants and bars up and down Main Street, the release notes.
The day starts with the Freeze Out Run by Philadelphia Runner and New Balance at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Freeze Out from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and then the Chowder Crawl from noon to 4 p.m. More information can be found online.
‘TROLLS’ at the Philadelphia Zoo
The Philadelphia Zoo is adding another pop-up exhibit throughout its grounds, and this one comes from Imagine Exhibitions. Thomas Dambo’s ‘TROLLS: Save the Humans‘ is making its East Coast debut in Philadelphia on Feb. 1, and what it features is a collection of the mystical creatures made out of repurposed wood.
Philadelphians who buy a ticket to the Zoo from the activation’s opening date through April 15 will be able to check out the 15-foot folklore-inspired creations for free (TROLLS is included with admission), and to accompany this exhibit, guests are also encouraged to bring their old Zoo Keys (or purchase one at any of the Zoo’s retail locations) to hear stories from the Trolls themselves.
The troll sculptures range in height from 16 to 50 feet and “live” as permanent or semi-permanent installations in parks, greenspaces, industrial parks, and in other site-specific locations around the world. Each folklore-inspired sculpture dons distinct expressions and characterizations, and for many of the installations, the artist additionally wrote folk tales to address the complex problems of our world in a fun and approachable way.

Paradigm Gallery + Studio
This Friday will kick off a new exhibit for Paradigm Gallery + Studio. ‘Anna Tas: All Things Considered – Selected Lenticular Work’ will be on view at the space until the end of this month (Feb. 24) and as the release notes, ‘All Things Considered’ is also part of (re)FOCUS 2024, the 50th anniversary of the “Philadelphia Focuses on Women in the Visual Arts” festival. A notable element of the exhibition will be the display of Tas’s collaborative series with Philadelphia artist Diane Burko, one of the original organizers of FOCUS in 1974.
The opening reception for the new showcase will kick off on Feb. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Anna Tas will be in attendance.

Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
There are a few different opportunities to celebrate the tasty holiday this Saturday. Milk Jawn, for example, is back at it for the holiday after a highly successful inaugural year in 2023 (before 9 a.m. there was a line down the block in 16-degree weather.) This local ice cream stop will be offering early flights of the dessert beginning at 9 a.m. at 1439 East Passyunk Ave in South Philly. Flavors span Cereal Milk with Fruity Pebble Crunch, Toast with Jam, Banana Nut Muffin and Breakfast in Bed.
Jeni’s Ice Cream will also be celebrating at scoop shops all over the country—and there are two locations in Philly, (in Center City and Fishtown.) From 9 a.m. to noon, Philadelphians can try an assortment of treats, plus some special flavors like Banana French Toast and Banoffee L’affogato.
Paffuto Pocket Party
Paffuto recently opened up their first brick and mortar store in Bella Vista after serving up hungry Philadelphians with its sweet and savory fare through pop-ups since November 2021. Now, the space is partnering up with Amaryllis Rivera Nassar of Amy’s Pastelillos for a “Panzerotti & Pastelillos Pocket Party.”
Taking place this Sunday, Feb, 4, the collaborative menu will see Rivera make an Italian-inspired pastelillo, while the Paffuto team plans on making a Puerto Rican version of a panzerotto, the release notes. Also on the menu for this weekend will be a dessert panzerotti and other treats.
