Love soul food? Love soul music? Then you better mark your calendars for a soul-centric Sunday this weekend for The Recipe at Punchline Philly this weekend.
Created by Yusuf Muhammad of Veteran Freshman and Nas Haddad of 6IX 8IGHT, guests can expect to groove to soul music from the 60s, 70s and 80s as well as dine on decadent yet healthy eats from soul food hotspot, Tasties.
“The Recipe was really inspired by feeling like there needed to be a dope event for the ‘old souls’ that are out there,” says Muhammad. “We want folks to dance, eat good and go home well rested and ready to start their week.”
Expect to hear music from Earth Wind & Fire, A Tribe Called Quest, Goldlink, Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross and more. DJs for the event include HVNLEE, Matthew Law and eddieLIMO.
“It is important that we keep this music alive,” Muhammad adds.
So how about the food? With the purchase of your ticket, you can enjoy yummy soul food delicacies like mac cheese, candied yams, collard greens, chicken fried rice, fish fried rice, fried chicken and chicken & waffles from popular soul food restaurant Tasties.
There will also be a one-hour long open bar sponsored by Kiki Vodka included with your ticket.
“We are at a time where we need more events that bring us together and make us feel good,” says Haddad. “The name of the event is exactly what we felt was ‘the recipe’ for an event to remember. Good food, good music and good surroundings.”
