Three fatally shot Tuesday night in Philly

Three people were killed in separate shootings Tuesday night across the city, including a 16-year-old boy who was gunned down in Oak Lane.

The teenager, Ahjaon Jackson, was shot several times just before midnight outside his house on the 200 block of Fairston Drive, police said. Officers took him to Einstein Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Deputy Commissioner Ben Naish told reporters Wednesday that three men appeared to be lying in wait for Ahjaon to return home, indicating that he was targeted by the suspects.

Earlier in the night, just before 9:45 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in the head inside of a Chinese restaurant on the 500 block of E. Westmoreland Street in Kensington, authorities said. He later died at Temple University Hospital.

In Northeast Philadelphia, 28-year-old Demetrius Brown died after being shot in the chest at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday on the 6600 block of Castor Avenue in the Castor Gardens neighborhood, police said.

A total of 453 people have been killed in Philadelphia in 2021, up 13% compared to this time last year and more than the year-end numbers for every year between 2007 and 2019, according to police data.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night, a married couple was wounded when someone opened fire just before 8 p.m. on a Cadillac Escalade at 19th and Gerritt streets in Point Breeze, authorities said.

A 34-year-old man who was sitting inside the vehicle was taken to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition with wounds to his neck, arms and shoulders, investigators said. His wife, a 32-year-old woman, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to her right arm.

In East Germantown, two teenagers were hit when gunfire erupted at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 300 block of E. Rittenhouse Street.

Police said an 18-year-old man was shot once in the lower back and a 17-year-old girl was grazed in the leg. Neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of any of the shootings.
