Three killed in pair of Sunday shootings

A shooting Sunday night in Kensington left two people dead, and authorities are searching for a gunman in connection with the killing of a man in Southwest Philadelphia.

Officers found three people with gunshot wounds just after 11 p.m. Sunday when they were called to the 1900 block of E. Somerset Street, police said.

A 38-year-old man was unresponsive after having been shot in the back of the head, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police rushed a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back to Temple University Hospital, where he died several hours later.

A 22-year-old man was shot twice to the right leg, and a 46-year-old man who investigators say was also injured in the shooting showed up to Episcopal Hospital with two gunshot wounds to his left leg, police said.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the double murder, and police did not provide a suspect description.

Earlier in the day, Kenneth Williams, 27, of Southwest Philly, was shot multiple times at around 6:45 p.m. on the 2000 block of S. 64th Street, authorities said. He died about two hours later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Investigators described the shooter as a black man who was wearing a surgical mask, black T-shirt and black pants with two yellow stripes on the outer part of the pant leg.

Police are also investigating a pair of recent stabbings.

Officers responding to the 2200 block of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Center City at around 5:15 p.m. Sunday found a 26-year-old man bleeding heavily on the ground. He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

The stabbing reportedly stemmed from an altercation connected to a homeless encampment that sprung up in recent weeks on the Parkway.

Police said one of the suspects is a 6-foot 2-inch black man who is light-skinned and has a full beard. He was wearing a green shirt with white lettering and light blue Capri jeans.

His accomplice was a black man who stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and has a trimmed beard, investigators said. He weighs about 180 pounds and was wearing a white tank top, black shorts and sneakers, according to authorities.

In West Philadelphia, a 62-year-old woman was stabbed in the left shoulder by someone she didn’t know just after 2 a.m. on the 5500 block of Pemberton Street, police said.

Officers rushed her to the hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
