Authorities are investigating after a woman’s body was found in West Philadelphia, and three people were killed in separate shootings Monday night into Tuesday morning.
The body was found at around 2:30 p.m. in the trunk of a silver Dodge Charger parked on the 5000 block of Merion Avenue near Superior Automotives. Investigators said they couldn’t determine the woman’s age.
Police did not release any additional information.
It’s the second time a woman’s body has been discovered in as many weeks. A woman was found dead inside a large plastic container July 15 in Grays Ferry.
In other news, officers were called at around 9:45 p.m. Monday to the 5000 block of Chester Ave. in Kingsessing, where they found 21-year-old Semaj Carter inside a black Mercedes with a gunshot wound to his back.
Carter, of Grays Ferry, died at the hospital about a half-hour later, police said.
Authorities began looking for a vehicle that had been spotted leaving the scene, and officers in West Philadelphia pulled over a car at 52nd and Pine streets.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was suffering from a gunshot wound to his head, and a passenger, a 14-year-old boy, had been shot in the back.
Both teenagers were rushed to the hospital. The elder boy was listed in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, while the younger victim is in stable condition, according to police.
No charges have been filed, and detectives continue to investigate the incident.
A 30-year-old man died after being shot multiple times in the chest at 2 a.m. Tuesday on the 3900 block of Haverford Avenue in Mantua, police said.
In Frankford, a man was shot once in the head just before midnight on the 1600 block of Pratt Street. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene, and officers recovered a gun.
Then, on Tuesday, a man in his 20s was shot once in the chest at around 3:45 p.m. on the 4700 block of Oakmont Street in Holmesburg, police said.
He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition and did not cooperate with investigators, according to police.
No arrests were reported in connection with any of the shootings.
Driver charged after unborn child killed in crash
A 19-year-old man was charged with murder Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a North Philadelphia crash that led to the death of an unborn child.
Authorities said Yaaseen Bivines and a 17-year-old boy were drag-racing up North Broad Street just before 5 a.m. Monday when their cars collided near Broad and Diamond streets, right by Temple University’s campus.
Gina Campbell, 27, who was 7-months pregnant, was sitting on a low concrete wall with two other men when she was hit by a car police say was operated by Bivines.
Campbell was taken to Temple University Hospital with serious injuries. Doctors performed an emergency C-section, but her baby girl did not survive, authorities said.
Neither Bivines nor the 17-year-old had driver’s licenses, and a total of six passengers were riding with them, investigators said.
Bivines, of North Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder, aggravated assault, DUI and a host of other crimes, according to authorities. Police said he is being held on $1 million bail.
