Three Philly police officers injured in two separate car accidents

Three police officers were injured yesterday in two unrelated car accidents.

Investigators said an officer with the 14th District was around 8:10 a.m. driving south on Musgrave Street in East Germantown.

As the cruiser crossed the Washington Lane intersection, a woman behind the wheel of a black Honda Civic allegedly blew a red light, causing the officer to strike the front panel of her driver’s side door.

Both the woman and the police officer were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where the woman was evaluated and released and the officer was treated for a knee injury.

Police said they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, and no charges have yet been filed in connection with the incident.

Two 18th District officers were injured several hours later while responding to a call in West Philadelphia.

Authorities said the officers were driving east on Chestnut Street at 49th Street shortly before 11:30 a.m., when a civilian car traveling south on 49th Street also entered the intersection.

The patrol car swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, but struck the civilian car, then careened into a utility pole. The private vehicle slammed into a light pole.

The officers, who suffered facial cuts and neck pain, are both in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. A woman in the civilian car was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

No arrests have been made in connection with the crash.
