Three takeaways from the Eagles’ first depth chart of 2022

The Philadelphia Eagles unveiled their first depth chart for the 2022 roster Monday evening. With the first preseason game set to kick off on Friday, it’s a perfect time to take a look at how the current roster is shaping up.

Slot Receiver

It’s pretty clear that Quez Watkins will be starting in the slot after an impressive second season with the club in 2021. While Philadelphia does use several combinations and no receiver will play in only one spot, his backup is a bit of a surprise.

Zach Pascal was brought in as a solid red-zone threat who operated primarily out of the slot. In the first depth chart, Pascal is listed as DeVonta Smith’s backup.

To note, Jalen Reagor is slated as Brown’s backup while Greg Ward is coming out of the slot behind Watkins.

Who are these Linebackers?

The days of trotting out inexperienced and inept linebackers are over for the Eagles. In what is arguably their most talented group in over a decade, TJ Edwards and Kyzir White are penciled in as the early starters with Davion Taylor and Nakobe Dean backing them up. Haason Reddick and Patrick Johnson are the two SAM’s on the roster.

Dean is listed behind Edwards as the MIKE, and is expected to play a major role in Friday’s contest.

Reagor is getting every chance to make the roster

Jalen Reagor had a very inconsistent year last year as the punt returner and kick returner for the Eagles. He had his moments where he changed field position in a very strong showing, but others (like the wild card game) where a muffed punt completely halted all momentum.

It appears the Eagles are willing to give Reagor every chance possible to keep his hold on a roster spot. Reagor is listed as the starter for both punt, and kick returning duties to start the 2022 season, despite the rise of underdog, Britain Covey.

Friday would be a good opportunity for Reagor to stand out in either role.
