Three teens injured in West Philly shooting

Three teenagers were injured when a gunman opened fire Sunday night in West Philadelphia, authorities said.

Officers were patrolling in the area at around 11:15 p.m. when they heard gunshots coming from the corner of 53rd and Market streets, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks; a 17-year-old boy was struck in the wrist; and an 18-year-old man was hit in the left leg. All three were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they were later listed in stable condition, authorities said.

The incident capped a violent weekend during which three people were killed and more than 30 were wounded, including a baby boy and several teenagers, in stabbings and shootings around the city.

Since June 21, 223 people have been shot, and the number of shooting victims in Philadelphia this year has climbed to 1,201, a 22% increase compared to this point in 2020, according to police data. Homicides are up 33%, surpassing 300 in recent days.

On Monday, just before 12:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot multiple times on the 3100 block of Jasper Street in Kensington. Officers took him to Temple University Hospital, where he was in critical condition, authorities said.

About 20 minutes earlier, a 30-year-old man was transported to the hospital in critical condition after being shot nine times on the 2400 block of N. Colorado Street in North Philadelphia, police.

Also injured in the shooting was 29-year-old man who sustained a wound to his right leg. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to authorities.

A 48-year-old man was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition after being stabbed at around 2:30 a.m. Monday on the 3200 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington, police said.

He is being treated for wounds to his neck and rib cage, according to investigators.

Several hours later, at around 6:45 a.m., a 54-year-old man was stabbed once in the side on the 1700 block of Judson Street in North Philadelphia, authorities said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Detectives did not apprehend a suspect or recover a weapon in the immediate aftermath of either stabbing.

In Hunting Park, a 33-year-old man was shot once in the lower back just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday outside on the 500 block of W. Roosevelt Boulevard. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Minutes earlier, in an unrelated incident, a 34-year-old man was shot several times in his chest, arms and legs on the 1600 block of W. Seltzer Street in North Philadelphia.

He was transported in a private vehicle to Temple University Hospital, where he was in critical condition following the shooting.

Police said two people, including a 16-year-old boy, were hospitalized after shots rang out just before 5 p.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Montana Street in East Mount Airy.

The teenager was shot in the left thigh, and a 23-year-old man sustained an injury to his left wrist. Both were taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.
