Titans 37, Eagles 19
And the answer is: Mike.
That’s the one-word answer Eagles coach Andy Reid gave yesterday when asked who would be his starting quarterback after the bye week.
That means Michael Vick, who has sat out the past three weeks while dealing with sore rib cartilage, will be back under center Nov. 7 against Indianapolis. Vick was named the starter on Sept. 22.
Since he’s been hurt, however, Kevin Kolb has enjoyed success. He was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a 31-17 win over Atlanta. Against Tennessee, Kolb went 26-of-48 for 231 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
“He has some good plays, some phenomenal plays and some I think he would like to have back,” Reid said of Kolb. “But when you’re playing a good football team, you’re going to have that.”
What went wrong …
1 Protect the ball: With 5:53 to go in the third quarter, the Eagles had a chance to open a 23-7 lead. Instead, a botched handoff between Kevin Kolb and LeSean McCoy gave the ball to Tennessee at the Titans’ 3-yard line. Kick returner Jorrick Calvin fumbled away another late in the fourth. The Eagles have fumbled 15 times this season, losing five of them.
2 Blame the Britt: Titans deep-play threat Kenny Britt, who sat out the first 1½ quarters for disciplinary reasons, caught seven balls for 225 yards and three scores. The Rutgers product consistently beat cornerback Ellis Hobbs off the line, and had safety Nate Allen backpedaling on an 80-yard bomb. “I have to play the ball better,” Allen said. “Too many mistakes.”
3 Red zone woes: With Michael Vick, TDs were guaranteed in between the 20s. With Kevin Kolb? Well, the Eagles have scored two TDs in their last eight red-zone trips, and the team has attempted eight field goals over the past two weeks.
