The area’s impressive number of Bandstand era heartthrobs get honored in a brand new mural at Broad and Tasker streets that’s being dedicated Saturday. The artwork, painted by Eric Okdeh, shows nine of our greats, like Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Eddie Fisher and Jerry Blavat. An afternoon block party abuts the dedication with live food, DJ music and a performance by “The Geator With the Heater” himself.

Taproom on 19th throws a food truck festival of sorts, featuring food trucks lined up outside the South Philly venue. Mixed in with trucks like The Cow and the Curd, J’eet, Oink and Moo BBQ, Foolish Waffles and more, are five pop-up breweries that will be pouring up craft drafts all day long. Outdoor seating and live music rounds out the block party vibes.

Take a tasting tour of Chinatown Thursday night at this festival that closes several streets in Chinatown for a celebration of local food, music and entertainment. Almost 50 food trucks and restaurants are signed up to attend, like Dump-n-roll, Kung Fu Hoagies, Li Ping Corn Co and Pbon’s Fresh Phood. The live entertainment comes mostly DJ-style along with a traditional performance by a lion and dragon dance troupe.

To support a community-led project to turn a concrete median on Bainbridge Street in Queen Village into a greener public space, area restaurants are bringing their grub to the streets. Spots like Hungry Pigeon, Ela, The Good King Tavern and more serve food for the affair, which also includes some kid-friendly activities. Let the little ones paint pumpkins with Painting With a Twist and create art with Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens.

Before they resurrect holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” this December, the Pennsylvania Ballet brings to life another beloved fairy tale whose story also includes busy mice, confused young ladies and princely leading man-types. This interpretation was written by Ben Stevenson, with music by Sergei Prokofiev.
