Triathlon swimmer found dead

A body was found in the Schuylkill River yesterday and it is believed to be a 40-year-old man from Delaware County who disappeared in the swimming leg of a triathlon Saturday morning, police said.

The disappearance of the unidentified man from Prospect Park caused race organizers of yesterday’s longer Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon event to change the event to a “run-bike-run,” eliminating the 1.5-kilometer swimming portion and having racers run 5 kilometers twice and bicycle 40 kilometers, organizers said. Numerous reports also said the body recovered was the missing swimmer.
