Turn your taste buds red, white and blue with these Philly spots

With the holiday weekend almost here, all of the activities and celebrating can make anyone hungry and thirsty…Luckily Philly is going to be flowing with Fourth-filled flavors this weekend.

Art in the Age

Philadelphians normally head to this unique bar, supply/bottle shop and tasting room for the spirits, and that still rings true for this weekend — but now there’s an added celebration to indulge in as well. The Old City venue will be hosting their “Art in The Age All American Weekend” leading up to Independence Day, and will be grilling hot dogs from Liberty Kitchen (South Kensington and Fishtown’s locally-focused deli and market) July 2, and then offering the locally-owned Milk Jawn ice cream to pair with some of their own drinks including their Black Trumpet Blueberry Cordial on July 3.

Dock Street Brewery

According to a release, to commemorate America’s Independence from King George III, our freedom from pandemic fatigue and the release of Dock Street Brewery’s summer beers, Philly’s OG Artisanal Brewery will celebrate with a free toast over the July 4th weekend. On July 2, 3 and 4, Dock Street will give away an 8-ounce glass of beer to anyone of legal drinking age who walks into the brewery. Philadelphians will have their choice between Dock Street’s Summer Haze (a pale ale brewed with pilsner, munich, and flaked wheat), Futuro Italian Pilsner (a nod to Dock Street’s founder Rosemarie Certo-Ware, an Italian immigrant) and their Barracuda Weisse (a tart ale brewed with raspberry and hibiscus.)

Red Owl Tavern

The Old City bar and eatery will be celebrating Independence Day by extending their popular brunch service into Monday after the Fourth of July holiday. While there, diners can sink their teeth into brunch staples such as buttermilk pancakes, steak and eggs, and chicken and waffles Saturday, Sunday and Monday. As a bonus, the Tavern also has added an all-new cocktail. The Patriot ($15) is composed of strawberry-infused tequila, blueberry-infused tequila, coconut syrup, and sage agave and is garnished with a small American flag pick.

Star Fusion Express

It’s a weekend filled with fireworks, flags and now, juice. Star Fusion Express located in the West Fairmount Park district of the city will be kicking off the weekend with a healthy red, white and blue juice fundraiser to not only commemorate Philadelphia getting past the pandemic, but also to benefit the community. According to a release, owner Darlene Jones has decided to sell ginger juices to raise money for the Parkside Association of Philadelphia — a community-based organization that serves the community while supporting housing services in the West Parkside neighborhood. From Thursday through Sunday, July 4th, Star Fusion will sell 24 oz. juices to-go for $5 apiece, with $1 from each sale going to the Parkside Association. The flavors being offered are Blueberry Lemonade with ginger and blue spirulina; Strawberry Lemon Ginger; and a Pineapple Ginger Colada which includes fresh pineapple, coconut, ginger and lemon.

Bank & Bourbon will be serving dinner on Sunday and the restaurant will be running a full buffet brunch on Saturday and Sunday as well. After your drink and meal, diners can also head to the 33rd floor of the hotel for a viewing experience which is only offered to hotel guests and Bank & Bourbon patrons.
