Two boys, 14 and 15, arrested in murder of Chinese food deliveryman

Police announced Monday that two boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested in connection with the murder last week of a Chinese food delivery driver during a botched robbery.

Rendong Zheng, 49, was shot around 10:30 p.m. on April 23 while making a food delivery to the area.

Sahmir Walker, 14, is charged with murder and robbery and Tyquail Duffy, 15, is charged with aggravated assault and intimidation.

Police responded to a call of gunshots at 10:37 p.m. at a housing complex at 500 Hillcreek Drive in Crescentville, but “upon arrival, nothing additional was immediately apparent,” according to the police report.

Meanwhile, across the street at 500 Adams Avenue, Fire Department crews were responding to a single-car accident.

Police say they found Zheng in the carwith a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Zheng died of his wounds en route to Einstein Hospital.

NBC reported that suspects fired 12 shots at Zheng while he was driving his car to make a food delivery, and that he tried to speed away, but crashed into a fence across the street.

He was an employee of New China Restaurant on the 5800 block of Rising Sun Avenue.

Police said the motive for the fatal shooting of Zheng was robbery, but nothing was taken.
