Two men are critical after two unrelated police-involved shootings in Kensington yesterday.
In the first incident, officers were patrolling the 2900 block of D Street shortly after 4 p.m. looking for a man wanted in connection with an earlier attempted robbery in which a woman, 37, was shot in the stomach on the 1800 block of Hart Lane.
When an officer pulled her car up to Krandale Smalls, 27, who fit the suspect’s description, he allegedly opened fire from a close distance, hitting the side of the police cruiser. The officer shot the suspect twice – firing at least one shot from her police car – hitting the man in the chest and grazing his head.
Both the suspect and the robbery victim were taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. The officer was not injured. Smalls, of the 3900 block of D Street, is
charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related offenses.
Police then received a call about gunshots on the 600 block of East Ontario Street, about a mile away, early this morning. Two responding officers allegedly saw Jose Delvalle, 39, carrying a revolver and ordered him to drop it several times.
Instead, police say he turned the gun on the officers and fired at least one shot. The officers chased Delvalle to the 600 block of East Thayer Street, where they exchanged gunfire again. Delvalle was hit at least twice in the stomach and collapsed.
He was hospitalized in critical condition. Delvalle, of the 2500 block of North 7th Street, is charged with aggravated assault, firearms violations and related offenses.
