Two killed, 11 wounded in weekend shootings, stabbings

At least two people were killed and 11 others hospitalized following violent incidents Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.

Police said a 21-year-old man died after being shot once in the head just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the 3800 block of Aramingo Avenue in Port Richmond.

Just minutes earlier, in a seemingly unrelated case, authorities found a 67-year-old man who had been stabbed to death inside an apartment on the 5200 block of Cottage Street in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia.

He had two wounds to his upper torso, police said, and investigators did not find a weapon. There were no arrests in the immediate aftermath of either killing.

A 16-year-old girl was struck by gunfire Sunday afternoon when someone fired a shot into a crowd that was gathered on the 6500 block of N. Broad Street in Oak Lane, police said.

Investigators believe a group of people were watching two women or girls fighting on the street. After someone sprayed mace into the crowd, a shot was fired, hitting the girl in the left thigh, authorities said.

Officers took her to Einstein Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

Early Sunday morning, at around 5 a.m., a man, described as approximately 35 years old, was stabbed three times outside on the 3700 block of N. 9th Street in Hunting Park, police said. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

In West Philadelphia, a 28-year-old man was critically injured after shots were fired at around 12:45 a.m. Sunday near the corner of 56th and Addison streets.

Authorities said he was struck twice in the chest and once in the right foot.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the right eye just before 12:45 a.m. Sunday on the 3000 block of Emerald Street in Kensington. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Two men were wounded when someone opened fire just before 7:15 p.m. Saturday on the 2500 block of N. Bancroft Street in North Philadelphia.

Authorities said a 52-year-old man was shot once in the chest and twice in the right shoulder, and the other victim, a 31-year-old man, was struck in the right arm. Both are expected to survive the shooting.

A 34-year-old man walked into Episcopal Hospital after being stabbed in the chest at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the 100 block of E. Indiana Avenue in Kensington. He was in critical condition following the incident, police said.

Earlier in the day, at around 5:15 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, scrotum and foot on the 2400 block of Island Avenue in the Eastwick neighborhood of Southwest Philadelphia.

His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, according to police.

Two men were in critical condition following a shooting Saturday morning in North Philadelphia, investigators said.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on the 3000 block of N. 15th Street. Police said a 53-year-old man was shot in the mouth, and a 40-year-old man was shot three times, including twice in the back.

In Mayfair, a 33-year-old man was shot three times in the back just before 1:45 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Frankford and Tyson avenues, police said. He is expected to physically recover.

Authorities reported no arrests in connection with the weekend’s violence.
