Two killed after chase called off

What started as a Roosevelt Boulevard police chase yesterday ended with two men dead and another in “extremely critical condition” after a car careened into trees and caught fire. Police said the men were stopped for a traffic violation at 12:03 a.m. An officer saw a gun thrown out the window before they fled. The police pursuit was called off near Fox Street, but minutes later, a call came in about a fiery crash in the 3500 block of School House Lane.

One passenger was thrown 20 feet and killed, another was found dead in the car, and the 24-year-old driver was taken to Temple University Hospital with life-threatening internal injuries. Police found a gun near 9th and Courtland streets.
