Two men have been charged with animal cruelty after setting a cat on fire on Nov. 10, officials with the Pennsylvania SPCA announced today.

Tyrique Hall, 21, of the 5200 block of North Third Street, and Jose Sanchez, 18, of the 100 block of West Fisher Street, were picked up by Philadelphia Police this afternoon. They have also been charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of an instrument of crime.

Hall and Sanchez could face up to 10 years in jail.

A woman saw a cat on fire run down Third Street toward Wellens Avenue in Olney on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 10. She said she then saw two men and heard one of them say “I put a lot of fluid on it.”

The cat, named Campbell, suffered severe burns and is still recovering at the SPCA shelter hospital. Officials said Campbell’s prognosis is good however he’s expected to stay at the hospital for another month. A microchip identified the cat as belonging to a family who lived 10 blocks away that had reported the cat missing over the summer.
