Police are searching for two women who assaulted a Dollar Tree clerk in South Philadelphia this morning.
The store manager, a 62-year-old-woman, saw two females enter the store on the 2300 block of Oregon Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. with two small children and large bags in tow.
One of the women had an item in her hand which, according to the store manager, suddenly disappeared. The manager asked to check that woman’s bag as she was exiting the store, but the woman grabbed her by the arm and pushed her out of the way.
When the manager approached the second woman about checking her bag, she, too attempted to walk around her to leave the store. The manager refused to move and the second woman grabbed her by the neck, choked her and pushed her through the doorway, knocking her to the ground.
The manager struck the back of her head on the pavement. She was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where she is in stable condition with a lump to the back of her head and scrapes and bruising on her lower spine and left forearm.
The two women, described only as black females in their 20s or 30s, fled with their children. Police are in talks with the store to obtain surveillance footage and may release it at a later date.
