Tyrese Maxey named in top 25 most underrated NBA players in 2022-2023

Tyrese Maxey named in top 25 most underrated NBA players in 2022-2023

The NBA Finals are upon us which means for most teams in the league, it’s a time for reflection. This could not be more true for the Philadelphia 76ers, who recently announced that Nick Nurse will be replacing Doc Rivers as their Head Coach.

In line with this, the guys at BetPennsylvania.com conducted a study to try and find the most underrated players from the 2022-2023 NBA season and the results are surprising.

The study involved using Basketball-reference to find the cap hit and point shares of each player and working out a dollar value per point share of each one. From there, they constructed a list of the 25 most undervalued players in the entire league.

Tyrese Maxey ranks 21st in ‘ NBA most underrated players’ list

It’s unsurprising to see Tyrese Maxey representing the Sixers in this list, although what is surprising is that he’s the only member from this Sixers team to appear on it. No Danuel House Jr, no Bball Paul. Only one player from this roster appeared on the list headlined by Anthony Lamb – Tyrese Maxey.

It’s not hard to see why, either. Despite a sluggish start that saw his role change on a near-weekly basis through no fault of his own, Tyrese Maxey went from averaging 8.0 PPG in 2020-2021 to 20.3 PPG this past season. His 3-point shooting in the regular season also increased from just 30.1 percent in 2020-2021 to 43.4 percent this year. Each jump is equally impressive and a testament to his work ethic and motivation to improve.

Through all the highs and lows Sixers fans have endured over the last few years, the drafting and subsequent development of Tyrese Maxey has to be among the brightest moments. The Kentucky product walked onto the court as an extremely young prospect who confusingly fell into Morey’s lap on Draft night and he’s done nothing but vindicate the decision to select him ever since.

With a new era being ushered in, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young star. But rest assured, the future is still extremely bright for Tyrese Maxey.
