Uncle Cholly sticking around

Charlie Manuel said he bleeds red, not blue. Well, that’s a good thing on so many levels.

Especially after the folksy manager inked a two-year contract extension Thursday with the Phillies. Manuel will be in red pinstripes through the 2013 season.

“I don’t think I’m going to catch [Joe] Paterno. I’d like to, but he’s got a head start on me,” Manuel said. “But at the same time, I think I made it pretty clear to [GM] Ruben [Amaro], I’m not planning on getting out in the near future.”

Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth around $4 million per season. He’ll be among the top five highest paid skippers in major-league baseball.

“I’m kind of glad to have it over with, because I want to stay focused on what we’re doing,” Manuel said.

Manuel took the reins in 2005 and has never had a losing season. He’s won four straight NL East crowns, leading the Phils to the 2008 World Series championship.
