Union defender: We can win now

All of Philadelphia Union’s players are confident. They seem to believe the team can win now.

This especially holds true for defender Danny Califf.

The 30-year-old central defender, who came to Philadelphia from FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga, borders on cocky. And he’s the first one to admit it.

“Oh yeah, I believe it,” Califf said. “I’ve said this all during training in preparation for the season that I thought we could win right away. Maybe that’s naive. I know the caliber of players we have here on this club. I think we have the right attitude, and I think we’re going to have a very good season.”

The Union evened their record at 1-1 with a 3-2 victory over D.C. United last Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field. Califf and his teammates credit the franchise’s first win to a total team effort, something they hope to continue when they return to action tomorrow in Toronto.

“I think you saw us come together some more,” Califf said. “It’s all about chemistry. We’re about the team here. I think as long as we continue with that attitude, good things will keep happening this season.”
