Philadelphia Union II is back in action this Sunday as they look to round out their June with a bounce-back win on the road against Toronto FC II. Union II currently sits atop of the Eastern Conference standings and will look to pull further away from the likes of Cincy 2 and Chattanooga.
Marlon LeBlanc tried his best to keep Union II as competitive as he could during the mid-week game against NYRB II, with Andrew Rick, Olwethu Makhanya, CJ Olney, Neil Pierre, and David Vazquez all unavailable for the game, with many of them involved with the senior team. Unfortunately for his side, they fell to a 4-1 loss with Eddy Davis getting the lone goal for Philly in a disappointing setback.
This game will be another tough roster management job for Marlon LeBlanc as CJ Olney, Olwethu Makhanya, and Andrew Rick all feature for the senior team in their game against Montreal. David Vazquez wasn’t with the senior team for that game so he could feature in this one. Marlon LeBlanc’s side was also named MLS Next Pro’s Midseason Best Team after winning 8 of their 14 games so far, whilst also holding the highest goal difference and scoring the most goals in the entire league with 30 goals in 14 games.
Toronto II is coming into the game struggling through the season right now, as they sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with 17 points from 12 games. They’re coming off a bounce-back win against Inter Miami CF II after Nathaniel Edwards fired home in the 53rd minute, after losing their previous 3 games.
The two sides previously played each other in the opening game of the season and thanks to a Frankie Westfield header and an Eddy Davis close-range finish that secured a 2-1 opening-day victory for Marlon LeBlanc’s men. After this game, the two teams will also face each other again.
The game will be played in Toronto with kick-off scheduled at 3:00 pm ET, the game will be streamed for free to everyone on MLS Next Pro’s website, no Apple TV or MLS Season Pass subscription is needed.
