Valerie Angeline: Neighbors identify woman killed in W. Phila apartment

A neighborhood is still recovering from a grisly discovery Saturday night.

Police said that the body of a woman, 31, was found by a male friend in her first floor apartment on the 300 block of North 64th Street in West Philadelphia shortly after 8 p.m. She suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, as well as head trauma, and died on the scene, police said.

Neighbors, who identified the woman as Valerie Angeline, said they were shocked. “I held her in my arms when she was a baby,” said Alfredo MacMillan, who owns a garage on the block. “She was a nice, friendly person.”

Angeline lived in the neighborhood for about 20 years and worked as a nurse, neighbors said. She was the city’s 85th homicide victim of the year, and the third in as many hours on an unusually violent Saturday night.
