A veteran Philadelphia Police officer was arrested and charged today with the assault of his girlfriend, police said.
Lt. Marques Newsome, 35, a 16-year veteran, was suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, according to a statement.
Newsome allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during a verbal argument on Oct. 27 on the 1300 block of North 57th Street in West Philadelphia. He was off-duty, police said.
“An investigation by the Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office led to a warrant and arrest of Lt. Newsome,” according to a news release.
Newsome, who worked in the 35th district in Olney, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possessing an instrument in crime, recklessly endangering another person and stalking.
