Vick comes up clutch for Birds

When it mattered, Andy Reid called a run. The coach even won a challenge that helped put the game away.

With the Eagles trailing by three to start the fourth quarter, Michael Vick plowed straight ahead for a 2-yard touchdown run. The quarterback had broken the drought, as the Eagles had settled for two field goals in their previous two red-zone trips. That go-ahead score fueled a 34-24 roller-coaster win over the Texans Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Vick’s score capped a six-play drive that was a direct response to a long, clock-consuming adventure by the Texans, which resulted in a 3-yard touchdown and Houston’s first lead. Then, the Eagles’ defense forced its first three-and-out of the second half and watched Vick and Co. march right back down the field to put the game out of reach, when Owen Schmitt hauled in a 5-yard TD pass.

Reid provided his biggest assist right before Schmitt put it away. After Brent Celek was ruled down at the 6-yard line, Reid challenged the spot and won. Schmitt scored on the next play and Reid was rewarded with a celebratory chest-bump from Vick.

What we saw …

1. Hi, my name is. Andy Reid didn’t call too many straight running plays, but LeSean McCoy made the most of all his opportunities. McCoy finished with 130 total yards (86 receiving, 44 rushing) with two TDs.

2.
Jekyll and Hyde. Sean McDermott’s defense was shaky at best, most notably in the secondary, for the second straight week. The Texans limited the Eagles to six total offensive plays in the third quarter. The lone bright spot was Trevor Laws’ INT.

3. Action Jackson. Jackson bounced back nicely from two bad games by recording three receptions for 84 yards, including two grabs over the middle. Pay him.
