Vick pulled early, no red-zone luck

Apparently, one quarter of Michael Vick was enough for Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Vick was supposed to play a full half at quarterback against the Jets Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field, as the Eagles rounded out their preseason schedule. But when the Eagles offense came out for the second quarter, it was Mike Kafka under center.

The rookie out of Northwestern threw an interception on his second pass.

Vick fared slightly better, completing 3-of-5 passes for 56 yards. He ran the ball twice for 11 yards, and he was sacked once.

He finished his preseason 16-for-28 passing, for 189 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions. He was also the Eagles’ leading preseason rusher, gaining 111 yards on 14 carries.

Surrounded by the deep end of the Eagles’ offensive depth chart, Vick proved the same thing as Kevin Kolb did — that he can move the ball through the middle of the field.

And the Eagles’ red-zone deficiency persisted.

On his one real opportunity to score — on the game’s opening drive — Vick’s roll-out pass to Hank Baskett in the end zone never had a chance.
