VIDEO: SEPTA police help man who has fallen on train tracks

Two SEPTA police officers and two bystanders rescued a man who had fallen onto train tracks on the Market-Frankford Elat the Somerset Station Wednesday eventing.

The incident happened at approximately 6:25 p.m. in the Kensington section of the cityas the man, seen in the video, stumbles down the steps. He appears to be in some sort of stupor, and walks right off the platform.

A cashier in the station, Juan Ramos, saw the man fall off the platform. He hit a deadman switch that cut power to the “third rail” in the station. He also alerted two nearby police officers.

Sgt. Richard Cavallaro and Officer Brandon Maxwell were in the area. They rushed to the scene, got onto the tracks andpushed the man up. Two Good Samaritans pulled him back onto the platform.

SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern said she did not know how old the man was nor his name, but she said he suffered cuts and bruises, as well as an injury to his right knee. It could have been worse.

“When he went into the track area, the power was still on,” Redfern said. “We never want anyone to be in the track area unless they are one of our workers and they are trained to be in there safely.”
