WATCH: Matvei Michkov throws First Pitch at Phillies vs Yankees Series Opener

When Matvei Michkov arrived in Philadelphia last week, he was wearing a Philadelphia Phillies baseball cap. Less than a week later, he threw out the first pitch of the Phillies and Yankees series opener.

Michkov throws opening pitch ahead of Yankees clash

A Reddit post said that Michkov would be throwing out the first pitch, but with how the internet is these days with Photoshop, there had to be a more credible source. Luckily, Philly Sports Networks‘ very own Zach Ciavolella’s parents sent him their Phillies ticket information that confirmed the ceremonial first pitch was indeed going to be thrown by Matvei Michkov.

The powerful forward said on Wednesday during his initial presser that he didn’t have a favorite Phillies player yet. That might have changed after tonight’s first pitch that was a strike to Tyler Phillips, who is a renowned Flyers fan.

Michkov rubbed shoulders with some of the players along with teammates Cam York, Joel Farabee, and Tyson Foerster before throwing the pitch, and would later gift Rob Thomson a signed hockey stick.

Overall, it’s great that Michkov is getting involved with Philadelphia and embracing all the support the fans are showing him. The Flyers players tend to be big baseball fans, as Konecny, Foerster, Drysdale, and Tippett go to many games. I’m sure they’ll be even bigger fans after tonight.
