Watch police save a man who overdoses on heroin while on SEPTA bus

Upper Darby police were able to save the life of a man last week who overdosed while on a SEPTA bus, according to published reports.

In surveillance video released by the police department, 25-year-old Michael Meeney of Middletown, Delaware County is seen injecting heroin into his right arm, according to NBC Philadelphia. Moments later, Meeney slips into an overdose and collapses from his seat onto the floor.

The passengers on the Route 111 bus called for help and the bus driver stopped the packed bus along State Road near Lansdowne Avenue, NBC reported.

The video then captures as a Upper Darby police officer arrives at the scene and administers the drug Narcan to Meeney — reviving him, according to Philly.com.

Upper Darby police decided to release the video of the Feb. 18 incident as a way to show the effects heroin can have while also highlight the lifesaving steps responders regularly use, Philly.com reported.

Earlier this week, police arrested Meeney on heroin possession charges.

According to NBC, Meeney was Upper Darby police’s 54th overdose save over the past year.
