WATCH: Three sought after anti-police graffiti found in South Philly

The Philadelphia Police are on the lookout for three people who law enforcement officials said spray-painted anti-police messages on walls and vehicles in South Philadelphia.

According to police, on Monday, July 24, at about 9:50 p.m., three people were caught on surveillance video walking along the 1200 block of S. 35th Street, while two of them spray-painted walls and vehicles along the street.

A third person, police said, acted as a look out.

While police didn’t detail what the graffiti said, Fox29 claimed the suspects painted a stenciled image of a stick figure throwing a Molotov cocktail – an explosive made of gasoline – with the words “Let’s toast the pigs with our choice of cocktail.”

After the graffiti was discovered, Mayor Jim Kenney released a statement decrying the type of hate speech found in the vandalism and promising that the individuals responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“I am angered by the numerous reports of hate speech and discriminatory behavior across Philadelphia today. The graffiti encouraging the murder of police officers in South Philadelphia and the racist actions and graffiti reported at these construction sites are fundamentally contradictory to Philadelphia’s values,” Kenney said in the statement. “We will use every possible tool at our disposal to find the perpetrators who committed this hateful, illegal behavior and pursue all possible criminal charges against them.”

In his statement, Kenney noted racist vandalism at local construction sites, an issue investigated recently by PlanPhilly.

Metro’s own Fixing Philly has also found complaints of racism in the city’s unions.

This graffiti also follows the strange, recent trend of nooses being found throughout the area.

Police are still investigating this incident. If you have any information on who might be responsible for this graffiti, contact the South Detective Division at 215-686-3013 or 3014, or click here to provide an anonymous tip online.
