Wawa customers save woman from carjacking in Bensalem: Police

The Bensalem Police Department says an attempted carjacking is connected to a similar incident that happened in December.

Cops said that on Sunday, Jan. 10, around 6:15p.m., a woman was sitting in her vehicle after filling her gas tank when a man approached her. According to police, when she tried to close her door to block the man from entering the car, the man grabbed the door and held it open.

“The suspect then covered the victim’s mouth with his hand and told her to keep quiet as he attempted to force her out of the driver’s seat,” Bensalem Police detailed. “The victim fought back and sounded her horn.”

At that point, cops said fellow Wawa patrons noticed what was going on and then “intervened and chased the suspect as he ran through the Neshaminy Interplex.”

Authorities described the suspect as a black male in his 20s,standing 5-foot-9 to six feet tall. The suspect was last seen wearing dark pants, a dark hooded sweatshirt, a knit cap and gloves.

Police believe that this incident is related to a similar reported carjackingthat happened on Dec. 30. In that incident, cops said the suspect “produced a knife and ordered the male victim to drive him to several ATM locations in Philadelphia where he forced the victim to remove an undisclosed amount of money.”

Citizens with information about either incident are encouraged to contact the Bensalem Police Department at 215-633-3719.
