Weekend shootings leave at least 14 injured

At least 14 people were shot Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia, and a 61-year-old woman is in critical condition after being beaten with a baseball bat.

She was attacked just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday inside a house on the 1100 block of S. 52nd Street in Kingsessing, authorities said. Officers rushed her to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she is being treated for serious injuries.

Police said a suspect was arrested, and detectives found the bat at the scene, but investigators did not release further information.

A 20-year-old man is also fighting for his life after he was shot multiple times just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday on the 2800 block of N. Reese Street in Fairhill. He is listed in critical condition, police said

Four people, including two teenagers, were injured Saturday night when gunfire rang out in West Philadelphia, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at 11:40 p.m. on the 100 block of N. Lindenwood Street. A 15-year-old boy was shot four times, sustaining wounds to his left shoulder, left ankle and left foot, and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the left ankle, police said.

In addition, a 46-year-old man was struck in the hip, and a 21-year-old man was hit in the right elbow, according to authorities.

All of the victims were transported to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

Several blocks away, at around 11 p.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was shot once in the left leg on Frazier Street near Arch Street, also in West Philadelphia. His injuries are not life-threatening, investigators said.

A 22-year-old man was driving just before 10:30 p.m. on Roosevelt Boulevard near Pratt Street in Northeast Philadelphia when he was shot once in the right arm by a gunman inside a red vehicle, authorities said.

He was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

In Kensington, a 44-year-old man was shot once in the leg just before 9 p.m. Saturday on the 3000 block of Ormes Street, police said. He is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

A 26-year-old man showed up at Temple University Hospital with gunshot wounds to his chest, left armpit and right arm after a shooting at around 7:15 p.m. at the corner of 29th Street and Girard Avenue in Brewerytown, authorities said. He is in critical condition, according to police.

Just before 5 p.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old woman was shot in the back near the intersection of 59th Street and Elmwood Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia. Police said she is listed in stable condition.

Twenty minutes earlier, officers were called to 68th Street and Dicks Avenue in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia, and they found a 35-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her left arm and right hand.

She was rushed to Penn Presbyertian, where she is in critical but stable condition, according to authorities.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the wrist just before 9 a.m. Saturday on the 3400 block of Helen Street in Harrowgate, police said. He is being treated for nonlife-threatening.

Not far away, in Kensington, two men were injured in a shooting at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of E. Wishart Street.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the right arm, hip, back and abdomen and was taken to Temple Hospital in critical condition, police said. The second victim, a 20-year-old man, was struck in the right ankle and left thigh and is in stable condition.

Authorities reported no arrests in connection with any of the shootings.
