Weekend sports betting preview: US Open, NBA Finals & More

The US Open proves exciting betting options

The second major of the golfing year takes place this weekend and it promises to be an exciting weekend of competition.

Rory McIlroy (+1000) is the leading favorite going into this week and understandably so after his excellent performance in Toronto. Justin Thomas is available at a similar price (+1100) and choosing between the two would be extremely difficult.

You can’t talk about favorites and not mention last year’s winner, John Rahm (+1200). The Spaniard has also had an impressive season thus far. He won the Mexico open and most recently placed 10th at The Memorial.

World #1 Scottie Scheffler is a little further out at +1400 and has seemingly cooled off a little from his dominant form early on. However, if cooling off is 4 top-20’s and a single missed cut, that temperature is still hot.

NBA Finals: Game 6

The Warriors go into Game 6 of the NBA finals with all the momentum in the world. Andrew Wiggins was dominant on home-court, giving the Dubs their second win in a row, and extending the series lead to two games. It’s all-or-nothing for the Celtics, who have to force a game 7 to keep their title hopes alive.

If you plan on betting this one, it all comes down to how you view momentum. The Warriors have it all, but it comes at a premium. Can the Celts pull off the unlikely?

Stanley Cup Finals: Game 2

The Lightning and Avalanche will play game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday afternoon at 3pm EST. This could make for some perfect afternoon viewing. Both teams bring a metric ton of star power to the table in a series that promises to be filled with scoring. If you plan on betting this one, taking the over on goals could be profitable.

Phillies vs Angels series

The Phillies have cooled off a little from their emphatic win streak to start the month of June and will now face the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia’s secret sweetheart, Mike Trout. Both teams have had a relatively disappointing start to the year, even though the Phils look to have changed their stars in recent weeks.

Formula One: Canadian Grand Prix

The Formula One circus rolls into Montreal for a race around the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. This race has thrown up some absolute classics over the years, such as Jenson Button’s unlikely win back in 2011. The Wall of champions has caught out even the most prolific of drivers and could claim another DNF this weekend.

Ferrari will be looking to get back on track after a double DNF last week. Red Bull were able to take full advantage of this with a perfect 1-2 finish.

One driver to watch will be George Russell. The Brit has been Mr Consistent for Mercedes this year and it feels like his maiden win is only a matter of time.
