Weekend violence leaves 6 dead, 7 injured

Six people were killed and at least seven others were injured in violence over the weekend across Philadelphia.

Authorities said a man was shot eight times at around 4:15 a.m. Sunday outside on the 2500 block of N. Franklin Street in North Philadelphia. The victim, described as being in his 30s, died a short time later at Temple University Hospital.

On Saturday, just after 9:15 p.m., officers were called to the 3700 block of N. Carlisle Street in the Tioga section of North Philadelphia, where they found a 19-year-old man suffering from several gunshot wounds, police said. He later died of his injuries.

In West Philadelphia, two men were gunned down while sitting in a car at around 8:30 p.m. on the 6000 block of Sansom Street, according to authorities.

Police said the victims, ages 33 and 24, died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The gunfire came from inside a white vehicle that was last seen traveling eastbound on Sansom Street, investigators said.

Medics pronounced a man dead at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday after he was shot multiple times on the 4300 block of Lawndale Street in Juniata, authorities said. Detectives believe he was walking in an alleyway with two other men, who opened fire on him before running away. The victim is believed to be in his 20s, according to police.

No arrests were reported in connection with any of the killings.

Someone shot an 18-year-old man twice in his arm just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of W. Venango Street in North Philadelphia, police said. He is expected to physically recover.

A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after being stabbed at around 11 p.m. Saturday on the platform of the Broad Street Line’s Logan Station in North Philadelphia, according to authorities.

He was later listed in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center with wounds to his torso and thigh. Officers apprehended a suspect at the scene and recovered a weapon, investigators said.

An arrest was also made after a 40-year-old man was stabbed three times at around 3:45 p.m. Saturday inside a store on the 2200 block of N. Broad Street in North Philadelphia, police said. The victim was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Earlier Saturday, just before 1:45 p.m., a 60-year-old man was shot once in his leg near the corner of 22nd Street and Sedgley Avenue in North Philadelphia, investigators said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A 54-year-old man was stabbed once in his abdomen at around 8:45 a.m. Saturday inside a house on the 800 block of N. 63rd Street in Overbrook, according to police. He was hospitalized in stable condition, and one person was taken into custody, authorities said.

In East Germantown, at around 2 a.m. Saturday, someone shot a 54-year-old man in the chest inside his house on the 2000 block of Champlost Avenue, police said. The gunman fired through the front door, according to investigators.

Authorities said the victim was later listed in critical condition at Einstein Medical Center.
